Shoot is a prophetic messianic name of Jesus (Yeshua‘) that is used in parallel with the title branch (netser) in a verse in Isaiah. The root of Jesse (David’s father) leads prophetically to the sprouting of the Messiah who is descended from him.
Shoot in Hebrew:
Strong’s Concordance number: 2415
Bible reference: Isa. 11:1
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. (Isaiah 11:1 NIV)
The KJV uses the word “rod.”
Other more common messianic names of Jesus that use the imagery of the nation sprouting like a plant are the branch, the root of David, and the sunrise from on high.
