God who shows me lovingkindness is one way of translating the Hebrew phrase. The word khesed has to do with covenant faithfulness. God’s loyalty to His covenant with His people was unfailing, even though Israel failed on her part. But it is important to note that His faithfulness flowed out of the love on which the relationship was based. The NIV captures the idea by saying that we can rely on God.
Through Jesus (Yeshua‘), we have access to a new and better covenant. God is just as faithful to the people of that covenant as He always has been.
