My portion

The Hebrew word behind this name of God is also used of parcels of land given to someone as an inheritance or share. Later a related word came to mean “field.” For the Levites (and God-fearers) God was the one who provided for them and they had no need to own land. In the same way, those who are devoted to God know Him as “My portion.” What more could we need than a heavenly Father who provides for us and gives us significance and worth?
