Power of God and wisdom of God is a double name of Jesus (Yeshua‘) the Christ. In Paul’s argument, Jesus relates to both Jews and Greeks (Gentiles) in ways they can understand. The Jews sought signs of God (power), the Greeks wanted logical proof (wisdom). Jesus came as the fulfillment of both if only we can recognize it with eyes of faith.
Power of God and Wisdom of God in Greek:
Theou dynamin kai Theou sophian
Strong’s Concordance numbers: 2316, 1411, 2316, 4678
Bible reference: 1 Cor. 1:24
We preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:24)
The word “power” is used as a way of speaking about God without naming Him. “Wisdom” is a name of Jesus in the New Testament.
