God related to His people in a similar way as a shepherd did to his sheep. In Psalm 80 that picture is used in an appeal to the Shepherd of Israel to save His flock.
Shepherd of Israel in Hebrew:
Ro‘eh Yisra’el
Strong’s Concordance numbers: 7462a, 3478
Bible reference: Ps. 80:1
Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel
You who lead Joseph like a flock;
You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth! (Psalm 80:1)
One Bible verse uses a prophetic name of Jesus that incorporates the name Shepherd of Israel: “Shepherd and Stone of Israel.” The imagery continues through the well-known psalm where the LORD is called “My Shepherd.” In the New Testament, Jesus is the Good Shepherd.
