Son of Adam

Luke took Jesus’ family tree all the way back to Adam and gave Jesus (Yeshua‘) the title, Son of Adam. In Greek, the words are literally, “of Adam.” That was the conventional way of referring to someone as a son of their father.

In a sense, every human is descended from Adam. This name of Jesus has that ordinary meaning; but it means more. Jesus is the representative human, the ideal human in relationship with God. Jesus’ lineage did not stop at Adam; it began in His oneness with God, as the Son of God. The sin of Adam did not taint Jesus because He is more than a Son of Adam.
