I am the way, and the truth, and the life

Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” It is one of I am names of Jesus (Yeshua‘) in John’s gospel.

Jesus is the way to everlasting relationship with the Father in His mansion (John 14:1-4). Elsewhere, we are told that Jesus made a new and living way to the Father (Eph. 2:18; Heb. 10:19-20).

Alētheia describes that way as truth rather than falsehood, and genuineness as opposed to the unreal or counterfeit. The path that Jesus leads us on is not a fantasy “yellow brick road” it is the only highway to heaven.

The life that Jesus leads us to has an eternal quality, like the life of God.

Bible reference: John 14:6

“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:2-6)

There are a few similar names for God that focus on either truth or life. God is the God of life and the True God or God of truth. The Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of truth.
